A “Mixed Load” in logistics is when a shipping container is loaded with different types of items loaded in no apparent order. So we are not talking about laundry here. Usually when a container is loaded, proper care is taken to sort out the items for easy unloading. But sometimes a shipper will load the container without any thought mixing different Styles, PO’s, SKU’s and product. So instead of the contents of the container coming out in an orderly fashion, they come out completely mixed.
An “avalanche” is when a container arrives with the entire load tipped forward or backwards, causing a more difficult unloading process. Avalanches usually occurs when the load has gaps for the contents to shift into. Below are examples of an avalanche in a container.
