Are you still providing Lumper services during the Covid-19 pandemic?

Yes, we are still providing service to our wonderful clients. Our crews will now arrive with masks to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus. We have also trained our crews on proper hand washing and social distancing. Workers will not be sent to sites if they show any signs of being sick.

Is Container Specialists and Lumper HQ the same company?

Yes, Container Specialists was our original name, but we decided to change it to Lumper HQ. 

Are your employees (lumpers) covered by WCB?

Yes, our employees are covered under our WCB coverage.

How much notice is required to request workers/lumpers?

We only require a 24 hour notice for your service requests. So if you have a container arriving tomorrow, let us know today!

What is cross-docking?

Cross-docking is the practice of unloading contents from a shipping container, then moving these contents directly into outbound trucks, trailers, or rail cars, with little or no storage in between.

Our lumpers can do cross docking safely and quickly. You will be amazed with their speed.

How long does it take to unload a shipping container?

The amount of time it will take to unload a container will vary depending on some factors including but not limited to the following:

  • The amount of pieces needed to be unloaded from the container (the more pieces, the longer it will take)
  • If sorting is required and there are many different styles
  • If the contents of the container are mixed, it will take a lot longer
  • If wrapping is requires, this will in some cases double the amount of time required to unload a container

*A typical container with about 400-600 pieces will take one lumper 2-hours.

*A heavy weight container with lots of sku’s and around 400-600 pieces could take 2 lumpers 3-8 hours.

What is a SKU, PO and Style?

In warehousing and logistics there are three terms that describe the different types of cargo in a container. 

  • SKU- (Stock Keeping Unit) A SKU is a specific code consisting of numbers and letters describing each product ‘s characteristics, such as manufacturer, brand, design, colour and size (small, medium, large, ect).
  • PO- (Purchase Order) A purchase order (PO) is a trade document and the first official offer issued by a purchaser to a seller indicating the types , quantities and agreed prices for products or services.
  • Style- a style can refer to the color or even size of a product.
